My first visit to Nosara happened in 2021, when most of the roads were still dirt, and the only nightlife to speak of happened somewhere up the road, near the grocery store, where fried chicken was served and beers were bottled (10/10).
We knew on the first trip we’d be back—where else could you be promised near daily surfing, vacant beaches, and sunsets to rival Manhattanhenge? And back we have been, near yearly since the first trip, mostly for the surfing, but also because it’s kind of the perfect place to work from home.
You should know:
Rent a car: Sure, you can jump in a shuttle and make your way two hours from Liberia airport, but you’ll want a car, especially if you plan on exploring other beaches.
Book a surf lesson: I know a guy.
Yes, you’ll want reservations: Especially for some of the restaurants with the best views
Best time to visit: Overall, you’ll probably want to visit during dry season (December-April), but it depends on what you’re looking for. May-August is great for surfing, and honestly, a little storm now and then isn’t so bad.
